Job Description:

  • Plans, coordinates, and performs activities of refrigeration mechanic personnel on a day-to-day basis; distributes incoming work orders and work assignments to ensure continuous manufacturing operations.

  • Oversees and manages Refrigeration, Electrical, and HVAC systems

  • Provides support and training to mechanics and operators.

  • Develops validation, maintenance, and instrument calibration procedures to comply with documentation requirements.  Maintains document files.

  • Assists in analyzing refrigeration methods and procedures to make recommendations for improvement and cost effectiveness.

  • Assists in controlling time and materials to meet pre-planned department budget commitments.

  • Enforces local, state, and federal codes and regulations, particularly those regarding workplace safety.

  • Acts as a first responder on the company hazardous material team.

  • Assists in analyzing refrigeration methods and procedures to make recommendations for improvement and cost effectiveness.

  • Assists in controlling time and materials to meet pre-planned department budget commitments.

  • Enforces local, state, and federal codes and regulations, particularly those regarding workplace safety.

  • Acts as a first responder on the company hazardous material team.

Experience and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus continuing job-related technical courses.

  • Completion of state certified refrigeration training program; journeyman license required. Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA) certification is required.

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and the OSHA/EPA/IIAR maintenance requirements for ammonia refrigeration equipment.

  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) Program and documentation.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in industrial maintenance.

  • Experience in maintenance shop procedures as well as maintaining and/or repairing ammonia refrigeration, processing and canning/packaging equipment, boilers, and vacuum systems preferred.

  • Experience in food manufacturing plant maintenance preferred.

  • Experience in automated maintenance software systems preferred (e.g. inventory, purchase orders, work orders, etc.).
